Drought Contingency Plan
MUD 186 understands the importance of water
and how it is essential to our daily lives,
environmental resources, and economic activity.
With the possibility of drought, high use of
water or the inability to supply water, the
District recognized that it must develop a plan
for temporarily adjusting the supply and demand
of water. On April 19, 2005, the District
adopted the Drought Contingency Plan (the Plan).
The Plan was approved so that the District may
conserve its available water supply and protect
the integrity of water supply facilities, with
particular regard for domestic water use,
sanitation, and fire protection and to protect
and preserve public health, welfare and safety
as well as minimize the adverse impact of water
supply shortage or other water supply emergency
conditions. The District established this Plan
in advance of actual conditions so that it is
prepared to minimize the adverse impacts.
The provisions of the Plan apply to all
persons, customers, and property utilizing water
provided by MUD 186. The District adopted the
“Trigger Conditions” which are for the purpose
of responding to, but not limited to,
- Reduction of available water supply to a
repeat of the drought of record
- Water production or distribution system
limitations
- Supply source contamination or
- Water system outage due to the failure
or damage of water system components
Should one of the above conditions occur,
users will be notified that a Trigger Condition
has occurred along with the response measure
that will be implemented.
Water uses regulated or prohibited under this
Plan are considered to be non-essential and
continuation of uses during times of water
shortage or other emergency water supply
conditions are deemed to constitute a waste of
water which will subject the offender to
penalties defined in
the Plan
